Families always seem
to be so busy as we’re either following our own pursuits or supporting others
in theirs. Recently mum’s taxi has fewer
miles on the clock. My parents are both
working, however we are making the effort to spend more time together at the weekends
and what better way than with a game or two?
My family in particular are competitive Uno players, which
leads to some quality banter. My dad and I prefer to play 1 v 1 Uno, a game
that gets very frustrating very quickly! The rounds are usually short, with the wild
cards pretty much guaranteeing your win.
Another great game that my family and I enjoy is ‘grab a pig’,
a game that can get very violent very quickly! As someone with long nails, I’m
a terrifying opponent!
As well as playing card games, we scavenged through the loft
and found some of my great granddad’s old jigsaw puzzles! We spent hours on the
puzzle, frequently losing pieces and working well into the night. It’s the most
amount of time I’ve spent with my parents in a while, which was a nice change
from our usually busy schedules.
Technology now has an increased role in game playing with
many families playing together outside of their homes. For example, every Saturday
we partake in a family quiz night with the questions ranging from cartoon
picture rounds to global news. It’s the highlight of our week! We’ll be hosting
in a few weeks time.
Families are being encouraged to celebrate the 75th
VE Day anniversary at home. I’ll be looking at the games that families in 1945
would have played and will recreate some on the day. Sometimes the simple ones
are the best!
Take care and stay safe! - Lauren :)
You competitive Lauren? Never!!! (haha!) I really like that you're considering looking at the entertainment from the 1940's for some inspiration this week - you'll have to share your findings with the Rangers!
